Solidarity message to the Autonomous Metalworkers Trade
Union of Serbia – Yura Corporation – Leskovac Chapter
Union of Serbia – Yura Corporation – Leskovac Chapter
Dear Comrades,
IndustriAll European Trade Union and IndustriALL Global Union have been informed about an industrial conflict at the Leskovac chapter of the Yura Corporation.
We understand that the following demands have been tabled by the Autonomous Metalworkers’ Trade Union of Serbia’s Yura chapter and that a series of warning strikes and stand-up strikes will be staged in their fight for better wages and dignified working conditions.
The demands put forward by the union are as follows:
1. A 20 % pay raise from the current Serbian minimum wage
2. Cessation of a punitive attendance bonus policy
3. An increase in meal allowances from 250 RSD to 400 RSD
4. An additional 5 million RSD per month to improve conditions in the company’s sanitary facilities
Our two international trade union federations find these demands reasonable when the cost-of-living crisis in Europe is taken into consideration. Collective bargaining is a legitimate right of trade unions protected by international conventions and the social acquis of the European Union. Strike actions are the last resort of unions to put pressure on their employer counterparts.
We urge the management of the company to meet the trade unions at the negotiating table with the objective of finding a constructive solution for the best of the company and its workers.
